There aren’t many games that resonate with me. There were only two of them: “Morrowind” and “Space Rangers”. I won’t explain why, because the article is not about them. I’ll just say that the path of the third part of “The Elder Scrolls” to my heart was long, but still this game found its place there forever. I fell in love with Rangers almost immediately. And now the third game has appeared, which captivated me, as they say, seriously and for a long time. This is game R.U.S.E. That’s what I want to talk about. After it came out and I went through it, I searched for a long time on different portals for people’s opinions to compare them with mine, but I didn’t find much. As a result, I had the idea to write this article and share my opinion. Before I start pouring out my thoughts, I want to make a small note. I am writing not as a critic, but as a simple average gamer who is not a fan of some games and does not trample others into the dirt, who does not set a goal to enter the top 10 of any online strategy or shooter, but simply likes to relax for a couple of hours in the evening in front of a toy with which he is fun and interested, be it balls or Arma 2. With that being said, let me get started.

Here they are, my favorites

PROLOGUE A spark will ignite a flame

What do we, or rather me, know about the development of the real-time strategy genre with base construction? Having looked at the entire path traveled by this giant of the gaming industry from its inception in the distant 90s to the present day, I identified for myself two turning points that really changed this genre and brought something new, improving it. But first things first.
First there was Dune. Or rather "Dune 2". It was with her that the march of strategies began on our computers. It laid the foundations and determined the further development of the genre for the next 10-15 years. Behind it were various CNC, War and StarCraft, as well as their numerous clones, improving the gameplay of that very dune, but in principle not introducing anything new to the concept. We’re not talking about graphics right now. So, this was the time of RTS projects, in which we collected resources, built buildings and troops, and crushed the enemy with our large army, like an avalanche.

… developed into this

So we had fun until the first turning point in the genre came – capturing points. We all remember how much the first, and then the second “Ground Control” changed the understanding of the genre. There are more tactics, more drive, action, tension. Overall it was fun. But construction disappeared. Of course, there have been tactical RTS without base construction before, the same “Dark omen” or “Blitzkrieg”. But I gave the example with GC precisely because of the capture of control points, in order to bring my narrative to the brainchild of Relic, namely the game “Warhammer 40k: Dawn of war”. It was she who combined the capture of points as a source of resources and the construction of bases. And she did it perfectly. Something new has appeared in the genre. That is, in addition to the classic RTS with resource collection, RTS with the concept of territory control appeared. There weren’t many of them, I probably don’t even know if there were any others besides “Dawn of war” and “Company of heroes” from the same company. But the fact that they were there and brought something new is a fact.

He was and still is my favorite in the WH40k universe

The next breakthrough in the genre for me was the creation of Chris Taylor “Supreme Commander”. But not because of the gameplay, which differed from the classics only in the number of units and the size of what was happening, but because of the control system, namely because of the strategic zoom. For me it was just a revelation when I first saw how the camera with one movement of a finger flies into the skies, and with the same movement returns to our, sometimes alien, mortal earth. And not to the same place, but to where you point with the mouse. I was absolutely delighted. There was no need for a minimap, the view of the battlefield became so simple that I could no longer play conventional strategies with a “camera on the ceiling”. But, Oh, my God, there was so much hassle with resources in it that all the fun of the game was spoiled for me. I didn’t get the pleasure for which I sat down to play a little in the evening. The situation became clearer with the release of the second part, which, although less in scale, became easier to learn. I got almost my ideal strategy..

Zoom is dragging and not https://gold99casino.co.uk/ e. doesn’t wobble. And the water there is beautiful

Until R came along.U.S.E., which incorporated the concept of a supcom, namely a strategic overview of vast territories, the gameplay of classic RTS with construction, a little from KoH (division into zones), plus brought something of its own to the construction of buildings, something that I can’t even explain. Well, tricks, how could we live without them?. And now he kindled my heart for the third time.

CHAPTER 1 The Long Road Home

This is exactly the strategy I have dreamed of all my life, without even knowing it. More precisely, not about this one, but about this one. I always subconsciously wanted a strategy in which there would be a wide variety of troops. Send planes to bomb buildings, send tanks to attack, supporting them with artillery from your base, place anti-aircraft guns to protect against enemy air raids, etc. d. Please I got soup. But after playing, I realized that yes, everything is there, but something is missing. What? Yes to the reality of what is happening. Future wars are good, of course, and I love science fiction, but I don’t know all these tanks and planes. I wanted to control something familiar. And I realized then, or rather even realized subconsciously, that the strategy of my dreams should be about the Second World War. Then I would get dear and familiar units. There was such an RTS – SoN. The Second World War, the construction of a base, everything is as it should be, and I would even get used to capturing points, if not for one thing – the scale of what is happening. After the supcom, the cards of ordinary RTSok caused attacks of claustrophobia. Plus, it infuriated me wildly that the soldiers, standing at a distance of a meter from each other, could not hit the enemy, and such exchanges of fire lasted for minutes. In short, it’s not the same again. I turned out to be such a picky player. I tried a lot of games, both in the fantasy genre, and about the future, and about the present, and about all eras of the past, but I didn’t find anything that suited me. The only games that somehow entertained me were “Generals” and “TsNTs 3”. But they didn’t settle in my heart forever.
My long search for the ideal ended when I accidentally saw this name, funny at first glance, on the Internet – R.U.S.E. Having no idea what kind of game this was, what it was about, and what kind of genre it was, I found videos, watched them and… immediately fell in love. At first sight. “HERE IS SHE. ", my subconscious shouted. “This is exactly what the ideal strategy should be,” reason agreed. "WON. "- the heart drove out all the other games that tried to occupy the third house and settle in it forever. Without playing the game, I determined for myself that this was the ideal strategy that captivated me once and for all. She had everything I subconsciously dreamed of. It combined vast territories and the strategic zoom of the Supreme, units of the Second World War and the classic gameplay of old-school RTS with base construction. I was looking forward to it. I even played beta, which has never happened to me. And finally I waited.

This is how my dream strategy meets me

CHAPTER 2 You can’t forbid fighting beautifully

This is the first time a game has sucked me in so much. After launching the campaign, I couldn’t tear myself away. No, it’s not about the plot, this is a separate conversation and about it separately. Delayed gameplay. I completed the campaign without getting up. Couldn’t tear myself away. As they said about “Diabla syndrome” – you want to see what’s around the next corner, and therefore you can’t tear yourself away. Something similar happened to me here too. I couldn’t tear myself away from the conduct of military operations, I wanted to look at all the units of all countries, try them in action. God, what delight I felt when my long-range artillery smashed enemy buildings to pieces across half the map (a really big map). I was like a child who asked Santa Claus for a bicycle that no one else in the area had, and got it.
I couldn’t judge what other players wanted, but that’s what I wanted and I got it. And to some extent I really was this boy who had something that no one else had. I had my dream strategy.
I usually don’t pay attention to graphics, so I can’t say what level it is in this game. As for me, Warcraft 3 level graphics are quite enough for an enjoyable game. And in general, I am against the development of graphics technologies in computer games. Lately, I have been getting the impression that computer game developers are artificially increasing the system requirements of their creations so that players buy new systems. Do they have a contract with hardware manufacturers?? In any case, that’s not what we’re talking about now. As for me, the picture is in R.U.S.E. pleasant, contributes to a better perception of the game, and nothing more is needed. This was my first impression. But my God, how spectacularly Katyusha rockets are launched, how artillery smoothly rains hail on enemy positions, how beautifully attack aircraft dive, destroying enemy equipment. And all this is controlled by light mouse movements, even with one hand. Second, you can safely eat a sandwich. Finally, a game has appeared that does not require frenzied micromanagement, but what kind of micromanagement is there, none at all. And so, when you send bombers to attack, having previously carried out artillery attacks on the enemy’s defensive positions, destroy individual enemy detachments with attack aircraft that are interfering with your supply lines, use your fighters to chase around the map the enemy forces remaining after thoroughly working anti-aircraft guns, and finally, with your tank column, crush everything that is left of the enemy – that’s when the whole beauty of war is revealed, no matter how cynical it may sound.

And all I hear is “Burn”.

CHAPTER 3 You had to think before

Before I went on the attack. Prepare thoroughly, scout out the enemy, weaken him, deceive him in the end, fortunately the game allows this, and not just throw a bunch of tanks at the enemy. Why am I doing this?? Besides, you have to think in the game. Essentially, there are two resources in the game – money, which comes from warehouses, and the ability to think, which comes from the player himself. You need to think even more than in Starcraft 2, where you need to look for a counter-strategy to the enemy’s strategy and implement it. Here, in addition to all this, you also need to use tricks, deceive the enemy and be able to unravel his deception. A more intelligent replacement for the old man’s micromanagement in my opinion. Again, tricks are something new that we haven’t seen in strategies before. Some kind of special abilities from “Generals”, like an artillery strike from behind the map or an air raid (here the corresponding units are responsible for this), only more interesting, original and logical. In a word, all this together allows your tactical and strategic genius to run wild. Of course, all this applies to a greater extent to multiplayer, which I unfortunately haven’t played yet, but even a fight with a computer opponent can bring quite a bit of fun. I don’t see the point in giving examples of various tactics and strategies in detail; let everyone find something interesting for themselves, and therefore I’ll finish this chapter.

Um. and this is definitely GoogleMaps?

CHAPTER 4 Well, damn it, you give.

This is exactly the thought that comes into my head when I remember the plot of the campaign. Well, as much as possible? Well, okay, everyone has already come to terms with the Americans’ claim that they won World War II. One can still come to terms with this, it is still not known what would have happened if the Germans had not had to fight on two fronts. But why blame the Russians for everything in the end?? Although this is a natural claim of Russian people. Surely Americans and Europeans will like this plot. After all, they are the ones the game is designed for. After all, even in Europe the official version is that it was the Americans who won the war. Moreover, even when they had not yet participated in the war, without their support everyone would now be speaking German. So for them this nonsense is not such nonsense.
Overall, the campaign itself is quite interesting. Good presentation of the plot, which is clear in advance, interesting characters, excellent inter-mission videos. Not text briefings in the “Kill the enemy” style, but interesting conversations between the main characters with good voice acting and good direction. The storyline develops throughout the war, and operations from the Second World War are organically woven into it. I personally liked that each operation is divided into several stages, each of which is a separate mission. It’s nice to go from task to task to make your way across the territory of the map or defend newly captured areas.
The gameplay in the campaign slowly warms up from mission to mission, and in the end it turns into a pure mess, which is what I love. I especially remember the mission where you need to defend two bases and attack at the same time. When a Katyusha salvo hit my airfield,. To. I didn’t scout them out in time, I was literally tearing my hair out. The last time I saw such stuffing was in the campaign of the second soup committee.
To summarize, I can say that although the plot is disappointing, the campaign itself is captivating and addictive.

Shouldn’t you go there??

All of the above, as I already said, is an exclusively subjective opinion, not intended to convince or prove anything. I just shared my opinion and will be glad to hear yours. And if you read this article carefully, you probably understood that it is basically pointless to explain to me that I was wrong. This game may have some flaws, but I didn’t see them. I’m not at all used to looking for flaws in something I like. And if I completed the game to the end, and didn’t even delete it from the computer, then the game is good. Although I still found some things in the game inconvenient. Namely, the inability to select one unit from a group without zooming in on the camera and clicking on it personally. But you can live with this, maybe they will fix it in a patch.
You can see my conclusion from the subtitle. The game will last for a long time, if not forever. My opinion, R.U.S.E. – game of the year. Therefore, I advise everyone to take out their general’s uniform from the closet, brush off the dust from their cap, wipe off their badge and show the enemy who’s in charge here.

AFTERWORD

Dear visitors to the portal, this creation is my first attempt at writing articles for the public to see. Therefore, I would like reasonable and constructive criticism, both in relation to the article and in relation to the game described in it. I hope it was interesting.
